Footsteps : Through the Mountains in a Tempo | Day 2

Namchi and Beyond   Day 2 : Next morning I woke up really early in morning out of excitement. I went to take a little walk near the bridge. Stood there for some time in the morning sun. It was such a nice feeling at that time. I came back after half an hour to the aunties shop for some breakfast. Enjoyed some warm noodles and and some tea in cold winter morning. Aunties Shop Jigme came at around 8:10 in the morning. We were in a hurry so we packed up and left quickly at around 8:30 am. We took a different root today. We didn't cross the bridge today but took a road towards north keeping the Rangeet river on our left. As I was sitting on the left side so I was able to watch the river beneath me absolutely green in colour flowing towards the opposite direction of our journey. It was quite early in the morning so the air was quite chilled. We moved on towards a place called Namchi which is around one and half our from Jorthang. this route was quite inhabited as this route is quite a r...

Footsteps : Through the Mountains in a Tempo | Day 1

Jorthang, Sikkim At the border of Sikkim and West Bengal by the river Rangeet there is small town called Jorthang in the state of Sikkim. In the December of 2018 I happened to be there for some work. The town is actually a valley just behind the Darjeeling ranges. At night one can see the Darjeeling town lights from distance from the river banks. Main squire Jorthang near taxi stand    Now, Why I was there? I was there to oversee some deliveries of high tech lab instruments to schools across Sikkim, mostly South Sikkim. To get to each locations we hired a small Tata truck or tempo for 4 days. There I met the driver Mr. Jigme. He lived 2 hours away from Jorthang in a west Sikim village. So let me tell you my story of the journeys through the eastern Himalayan Mountains for 5 days. Rangeet Riverbed I stayed in a small but nice Hotel in the main town center of Jorthang. Sikkim is a very neat and clean state and so was Jorthang. Riverbed beside the town was a good place to hang ar...

Footsteps : A place called Kalasa

Kalasa, Karnataka Meeting Kudremukh   It was fate that I suddenly landed at this place all of a sudden all those years ago. A simple detour that took more than a half a day to reach Kalasa from Mangalore. But the experience of that journey still lingers in my mind.  This is not a tourist destination by any means and neither was I a tourist. It was a sudden call of duty that took me there. So let me tell the story about that day that I met Kudremukh. Kalasa is a small town of Karnataka in hills of the western ghats. Not really anything famous or interesting but still beautiful in its own way. I had some office work there at a high school in that town. The usual route to reach there is a road trip through narrow winding hilly roads of  the western ghats from either Chikmanglur or Shivamoga. That's a trip on itself. But through some fated reason I was in Mangalore and I need to go to Kalasa for a days work. PU school Kalasa   I had no idea how to go there from Mangalore...
